Spinal disc injury is very common, and can be due to acute or sudden onset damage as occurs with lifting wrongly, or with degeneration over time. Disc bulges have the potential to compress or irritate nerves from the spine, causing pain or changes to sensation and weakness in the arm or leg (e.g. sciatica). Disc injuries can require special techniques in order to manage them more effectively.
With this in mind, we have specialised tables that allow us to perform a chiropractic technique known as ‘flexion – distraction’. Flexion – distraction is a gentle technique, which aims to help ‘take the pressure off’ discs and surrounding nerves that may be getting irritated. With this and other techniques (including rehabilitation) we aim to improve your disc injury and in many cases avoid surgical intervention. We can also help co-ordinate any further testing such as MRI or CT scanning and work in conjunction with your GP to provide the best outcome.
