All of our chiropractors have extensive training and experience in dealing with mechanical problems of the feet, knees, hips, wrists, elbow, shoulder and other joints. Over time and through research we have found that solely addressing the spine may not be enough to properly correct your problem.
As a result, we may routinely check and (if needed) treat your upper or lower limb/s. In particular, we will pay a lot of attention to your feet, as they can have a considerable effect on your spine and posture, even if you aren’t experiencing any symptoms in your feet.
The normal foot rolls inwards and then outwards while it is moving from heel strike to toe-off. When normal rolling becomes excessive due to abnormal structure and function in the arches of the foot or changes in your spinal posture, excessive twisting forces result in overuse and irritation to the soft tissues, which support the joints in the foot, knee, hip, pelvis and spine. This is frequently the underlying cause of chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
We may scan your feet while you walk using a sophisticated computer-powered pressure plate (called a Gait Scan), in order to assess if you require a little help for your feet in the form of custom made orthotics. Our scanning plate and analysis software is quite advanced, and much more sensitive than those that might be found in a shoe store. All options will be discussed with you should this service be required. Usually rehabilitation (exercise) is attempted first, with orthotics as a last resort.
